The company behind the vegan burger that’s taking the world by storm thanks to its realistic beef burger taste and texture, has revealed it’s working on the development of plant-based bacon and steak.

The new products are being developed as part of the company’s long-term strategy to create a range of realistic plant-based meat alternatives that are free from soy, gluten and GMO’s as well as being kinder to animals and the planet.

Whilst there is no launch date for the new products, CEO Ethan Brown told CNN that the company’s research team would need a “surprise breakthrough” to launch the bacon alternative in the near future, but said that the taste and texture of the product is improving as it goes through the development process.

Speaking about the new products currently in development, Brown told CNN Business that the new additions are “important as we build out the portfolio.”

Beyond Meat currently offers a range of mock meats such as burgers, sausages and ground beef, which it sells in supermarkets as well as at restaurants such as Neat Burger, Subway and Dunkin’ Donuts.
