Many may wonder what impact Pope Francis could possibly make even if he does become aware of impact of animal agriculture. Well with his Laudatio Si on climate change he has drawn attention to the problem and attempted to reconcile religion with science,  which has put pressure on world leaders to take another look at their beliefs.

While Pope Francis was preparing the Laudato Si, oil lobbies did everything in their power to prevent him from saying what he did regarding fossil fuels. They would not have gone to the trouble to attempt to stop him if they didn’t believe his opinion would have a massive impact.

The Catholic Church has more than 1.2 billion members and can thus have a massive influence on the acceptance of facts that some politicians choose to distort or ignore. If just those 1.2 billion people cut down on their meat consumption it would drastically curb the effects of climate change.
