In this video, viewers are implored to consider a new normal for farm animals as we come to terms with the new normal for humans during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, humans are rapidly changing the way they function and adjusting to a new normal. US-based NGO Mercy For Animals (MFA) released a 60-second long video today to urge people to build a new normal for animals, to end their exploitation. It is no secret that animals are subjected to immense cruelty in factory farms where they are forced to live in cramped, filthy and crowded environments conducive to emergence of infectious diseases that can possibly leading to pandemics. At slaughterhouses, they are treated as commodities and killed in large numbers day after day amidst filthy conditions.

The video, narrated by vegan activist Earthling Ed, shows the horrific conditions farmed animals while imploring viewers to consider a new normal for them as we come to terms with the new normal for humans during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mercy For Animals is working to highlight the ways the pandemic has exposed the cracks in our food system. As media attention continues to focus on slaughterhouse conditions and the impact on workers, farmers, and animals, they hope MFA’s video will move viewers to recognise the interconnectedness between humans and animals.

The video was created by an award-winning Brazilian agency that was selected twice by the Swiss NGO Act Responsible for a virtual exhibition in Cannes for the best social campaigns of 2019 and 2020 in the world.
