A star-studded lineup is set for a reading of an upcoming audiobook. Jane Fonda, America Ferrera, Janet Mock, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Sophia Bush are set to narrate the climate activism audiobook, All We Can Save: Truth, Courage and Solutions for the Climate Crisis

In the audiobook production, the stars will read aloud a collection of essays written by women on the front lines of climate change. The anthology, edited by climate leaders Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Katharine K. Wilkinson, features a collection of essays, poetry and art by 41 women in the climate movement and asks critical questions while providing insight and solutions to tackling climate change.

“I took on the role of casting the audiobook. This entailed calling in favours and sliding into people’s DMs (thanks for being so cool about that, Ilana Glazer). The responses were incredible – enthusiastic yeses,” says Johnson. “It is so meaningful that these cultural leaders just immediately got the importance of this project and wanted to be a part of giving voice to essential women climate leaders of our time.”

She adds, “Successfully addressing the climate crisis requires a massive cultural shift, a change in the narratives, a shift in the status quo, and this is one contribution to that.”

Johnson is the CEO of Ocean Collectiv, founder of Urban Ocean Lab, and works on the How to Save a Planet podcast with Gimlet Media founder Alex Blumberg. Wilkinson is VP of Communication and Engagement at Project Drawdown and lead writer of the bestseller Drawdown.

“The pages of All We Can Save contain a mighty chorus of women leading and lighting the way on climate. To hear their writings brought to life with such passion, generosity, and talent – it’s what the upwelling of feminist climate leadership is all about. We need all of us working together, bringing our superpowers to this moment, and building a better world,” says Wilkinson.

“Women are on the front line of the climate-change battle, and are uniquely situated to be agents of change – to find ways to mitigate the causes of global warming and adapt to its impacts on the ground. Today, across the world, from boardrooms and policy positions to local communities, from science to activism, women everywhere are using their voices to take leadership and call for action on climate change,” PRH audio said in a statement.

Each of the star activists involved in the production have been long advocates for climate change. Fonda’s efforts inspired her to launch “Fire Drill Fridays” (FDF) – and she recounted her personal journey as an activist in a new book titled What Can I Do? My Path From Climate Despair to Action (Penguin Press). Whereas, Ferrera has long advocated on issues of climate change, taking part in National Geographic’s documentary series Years of Living Dangerously

The upcoming hardcover and audiobook’s release has proven to be rather timely as heat records were recorded across California in the past month and many have been forced to endure the worst air quality in areas, such as Los Angeles and San Francisco, amid ongoing wildfires such as the bobcat fire.

All We Can Save will release on 22 September. A hardcover of the book will be published by One World.
