The Statues We’ll Topple Tomorrow

We now understand the ways in which past leaders were profoundly flawed – because of ties to slavery (George Washington), or demonisation of Native Americans (Teddy Roosevelt), or general racism (Woodrow Wilson), and I’ve been wondering how our moral views will change in the future. What behaviours that are now tolerated will be widely regarded by our descendants as unfathomably cruel? What attitudes do we now have that our children’s children will see as bewilderingly immoral?

My own bet is that one answer to that question will be factory farming and the treatment of poultry and livestock.
