British actress, Joanna Lumley, has been honoured with Damehood at Buckingham Palace in recognition of her services to drama, entertainment and charitable causes.

Famed internationally for her role in the comedy Absolutely Fabulous, the British actress, author and activist Joanna Lumley was honoured with Damehood at Buckingham Palace. during an investiture by the Princess royal. She received the honour for her services to drama, entertainment and charitable causes.

Queen Elizabeth and the royal family also congratulated Joanna after she received her Damehood. Posting a photo of the new dame holding her award on its Twitter handle, the official account for the royals wrote: ‘Congratulations Dame Joanna Lumley. Later, the actress insisted she has no plans to retire from acting yet and will carry on.

Miss Lumley has stated that she has  been a vegetarian for years and when she is on her own she’s pretty much vegan. “But vegan is seeds and nuts, and you can’t give a chap seeds and nuts – they get too cross!”

For Lumley, keeping up with a vegetarian diet is easy, especially with her travels to the Middle and Far East, as a lot of this cuisine is vegetable based. She continued to add: “They never expect you to stuff yourself with meat all the time. A lot of the time they do clever things with beautiful vegetables and spices and herbs and in the end you don’t miss anything.”

This is not the first time Lumley has spoken about the love of her diet and why she chooses not to eat meat. Back in 2021, when asked how she stays looking so young she exclaimed: “I’ve been a vegetarian for more than 40 years and I’m never ill.

The 70-year-old’s Ab Fab character Patsy Stone once claimed she had not eaten a thing since 1973.

Dame Joanna has won two BAFTA TV Awards for her role as Patsy Stone in the BBC sitcom Absolutely Fabulous (1992–2012), and was nominated for the 2011 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for the Broadway revival of La Bête. In 2013, she received the Special Recognition Award at the National Television Awards, and in 2017 she was honoured with the BAFTA Fellowship award.

Patsy is an alcoholic, a chain smoker, and a frequent recreational drug user. She carries drugs with her at all times, storing joints in her trademark beehive. She has nearly overdosed on several occasions, and In 2013, she received the Special Recognition Award at the National Television Awards, and in 2017 she was honoured with the BAFTA Fellowship award.

Lumley has cemented her role as one of the UK’s most-loved & respected actresses. She is rarely off UK TV screens and has also built a successful film career as a character/voice-over actress.
