Candle is the latest in the long-standing Candle group of restaurants, with its chefs combining decades of experience into its finely honed vegan dishes. Over 30 years ago, Candle Cafe East first began serving healthy, cruelty food to the people of New York City.

This was followed by the opening of upscale Candle 79 in 2003 and, eventually, Candle Cafe West on the Upper West Side. However, the chain ultimately dissolved after Candle Cafe West shut down in 2019, followed by Candle 79’s closure later that same year due to soaring Manhattan rents. Candle Cafe East soldiered on through much of the COVID 19 pandemic in 2020, offering takeout and delivery services until it, too, eventually closed.
